Calendar: ServiceHelp Pick Up Trash on Kennedy FreewayJoin your fellow Sierrans on the roadsideOn Saturday, September 17, the Missouri Valley Group has a service project that will allow you to help the environment by picking up trash along the Kennedy Freeway in south Omaha. The group has adopted the segment of Kennedy Freeway between Q Street and Chandler Road for litter cleanup. You may have noticed the signs posted on the highway recognizing the Sierra Club's efforts. Our fall cleanup outing is scheduled for 10:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 17. The work is relatively easy, and the exercise with your fellow Sierra Club volunteers is a lot of fun. We provide the trash bags and safety vests, and workers need to bring gloves, wear good shoes, and bring drinking water. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult. If you would like to help, call Alan Vovolka at 402-344-3988 or or e-mail him at alan.char@cox.net. This article originally appeared in the September 2005 issue of the Missouri Valley Sierran |
