Calendar: ServiceFreeway Cleaned Up by Sierra VolunteersThe stretch of the Kennedy Freeway between Q Street and Chandler Road in South Omaha is a lot cleaner now thanks to the efforts of Sierra Club volunteers. On Saturday, April 30 several hundred pounds of litter were picked up filling 15 large orange bags. In addition, trash too large to bag was collected and brought to the roadside for pickup by state highway employees including tires, refrigerator parts, and a mattress box spring. Co-leaders Alan Volvolka and Clyde Anderson appreciate the hard-working volunteers who helped with the project: Diane Cavenee, Karen Hardman, Jim Kautz, and Jane Wilson. Our fall cleanup outing is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24. Mark your calendar now! This article originally appeared in the May 2005 issue of the Missouri Valley Sierran |
